A logistic giant serving human resource

Acquiring and hiring. Geodis Logistics strengthens its staff countertrend in a crisis period

Milan, 27th May 2010 – A good wining team does not have to be changed but improved. This is the strategy chose by Geodis Logistics - Italian Logistic Division of Geodis Group - to reach the present facts and figures. In Italy, indeed, these are not focalized just on revenue – today about 200 Million Euro, with more than 633.000 sqm of covered area – but above all on human resources: with more than 370 employees and about 1.700 external collaborators.
Confirming these strategic decisions, after GTL, Sincrolog, and BSL acquisitions, Geodis Logistics did not cut its staff, like happened most of the times when it is necessary a new organization of human resources.

“Geodis Logistics’ target is to maintain untouched all the features of the companies recently merged – said Mr. Fabio Mazzariol, Human Resource Director of Geodis. To acquire a company doesn’t mean to include only its revenue, but also skills and energy of men and women who enables to reach that revenue.”

Know-how acquisition and new synergies creation. These are the advantages of merger a company, however Geodis Logistics cares a lot of advantage given by employees. They are decisive in the customers decisions and customers acknowledge in a stability among the human relationships, the basis for a stability in business.

For these reasons, Geodis Logistics’ strategy is to maintain the former organization. “To integrate one another means to create added value without destroying the other: “richness on differences” enables an organization structurally flexible which supports the complexity of our services offer.”- resumes Mr. Mazzariol.

In a moment of crisis, when increasing of unemployment rate is one of the first consequences, Geodis Logistics did not stop to enlarge its staff, not only thanks to the acquisitions, but also through “Progetto vivaio”, a selection of fresh talents to insert like trainees with the aim to develop them. These are the reasons of new contacts activated with prestigious universities, one for all SDA Bocconi, which give the opportunity of a direct contact with students so as to identify potential talents, looking for a way to express themselves.

It is often scheduled a job rotation period in order to understand (and to make understand) the skills of the employee and the company functions. To believe in a person means to support his growth, professionally and personally, learning methodology and sharing values; the same values that allows Geodis to be one of the most important supply chain’s operator. The care of employees is not exclusive for new hiring. STC project (Total satisfaction collaborators), since last year operative also in Italy, will contribute, during this delicate moment of going on acquisitions, to process a common code of behaviors among the several companies of the Group. After the results of a survey about company climate, it will be possible to fix up the weaknesses, so as to grant a good job climate, the best way to create new stimulus to get a professional improvement.
